Pastor Samuel C. Tolbert, Jr., has been pastor of Greater St. Mary
Missionary Baptist Church for 22 years! He is a native of Lake Charles,
Louisiana. Pastor Tolbert is married to Matilda Edwards
Tolbert and they have two daughters, Candace Latrice and Kayla
Monique. In 1976 he graduated from Washington High School of Lake
Charles. He attended Delta School of Business majoring in Office
Specialist, McNeese State University,
majoring in Radio & Television Broadcasting and a 1986 graduate of
Bishop College, Dallas, Texas, with a major in Religion &
Philosophy with a minor in Speech education.
He
served for 5 years as pastor
of the Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, Cameron, La. He
is the former 1st Vice-President of Southwest Missionary Baptist
Association, Served as
Vice-President-at-Large of the Louisiana Home & Foreign
Mission Baptist State Convention and serves as the
General Secretary of
the National Baptist Convention of America, Inc. For 4 years
he was a Commissioner with the
Lake Charles Housing Authority. On June 30, 2005 he
completed a 12 year term on the
Lake Charles City Council.
He has served as President and
Vice-President of the Lake Charles City Council.
Pastor Tolbert is leading the church into the Purpose Driven Strategy.
Pastor Tolbert preaches expository messages. The discipleship curriculum
at our church is composed of 101 discovering membership, 201 discovering
maturity, 301 discovering ministry and 401 discovering mission. The
church is currently located on a four acre tract of land at 1401 Moeling
Street with four buildings totaling over 40,000 square feet. There is a
23 acre tract of land in the Lebleu Settlement named Prospect 2000 that
shall be developed into a retreat center. We operate a 12 unit apartment
complex, "Pearl Pines" at 1100 Giovanni Street. We still have our old
1917 Harless street property to be developed as the R.B. House Center,
which will be used for community based programs for families.
